Kristina Karamo, former Secretary of State candidate,  emerged victorious in the highly-contested, 11-candidate race for Michigan Republican Party Chair at the Saturday, February 18 MIGOP Convention in Lansing, Michigan. After three rounds of voting, Karamo defeated former Michigan Attorney General candidate Matt DePerno by 58% to 42%, making history as the first black, female chair of the Michigan Republican Party.

Following her victory, Karamo, alongside running mate Malinda Pego of District 2, stated, “Malinda and I are honored to have been elected as chair and co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party. We are Constitutionalists, who will stop the Democratic Party’s totalitarian agenda in Michigan. We will not apologize for putting the freedoms of ALL Michiganders first. We will grow our party, and we will win in 2024.”

In addition to Saturday’s candidate lineup, District 2 held an election on Friday night to determine its leadership team. Delegates from across District 2 voted in favor of an America-First team that aimed to provide representation to each county in the district. Among those candidates were Bree Moeggenberg and Elise Bennett of Isabella county. Moeggenberg was elected State Committeewoman, and Bennett was elected to the District 2 executive committee. Newly elected District 2 Chair Andrew Sebolt stated, “As we continue to grow Liberty and Freedom in Michigan, it’s imperative that a TEAM work at the district level to help provide support for the counties. It takes a growing grassroots movement to do this and that is exactly what our America First 2nd District Team intends to do! Time to get to work!”
